You Own a Job, Not a Business

If your business stops working the moment you stop working, you do not own a business, you own a job, and it is the most expensive job you will ever have because you also carry all the risk. In this episode, JT breaks down the one test that tells you how dependent your business really is on you, and the three moves that turn a job that owns you into an asset that works whether you show up or not: the 30-day test to find your real org chart, documenting the decision instead of the task so your team can actually run, and the one number plus one backup that give the business a heartbeat you can trust from a distance. Ends with a simple plan: hand off one decision a week until the phone stops buzzing on your vacation.

Three Moves

Stop owning a job. Build a business that runs without you.

A job that owns you and an asset that works without you can look identical while you are standing in the middle of both. These three moves are how you tell the difference and cross from one to the other.

01

The 30-Day Test

If you disappeared for thirty days, no calls, no email, no checking in, what breaks first? Play it out honestly, day by day. Whatever routes back to you first is your real org chart, not the one on paper. That is the diagnosis.

02

Document the Decision, Not the Task

Most owners delegate the doing and keep the deciding, then wonder why they are still not free. Do not just write how to process the refund, write when someone is allowed to give one, up to what amount. You are handing over judgment, not instructions.

03

One Number and One Backup

Give the business a heartbeat you can trust from a distance. One number, usually cash position, checked every single morning by someone. And a trained backup for every role that lives in only one person, including you. No single person should be a door the whole business walks through.
